The Best & Worst Celebrity Baby Names

Today I am counting down my Top 5 best & worst Celebrity Baby Names of all time!
As I have already mentioned, I love unusual names and so appreciate the creativity behind a lot of the names that celebrities use for their children - however some are much wackier than others, and it seems that in the search for creative inspiration some celebrities simply missed the mark!

5 Of The Best

Sunday Rose

Eldest daughter of Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban - I know a lot of people disliked this name choice purely because of how similar it sounds to "Sunday Roast!" - but I doubt Sunday Roasts are something that are often discussed in celebrity households such as this, so I doubt that will be much of an issue for Sunday throughout her life!
I have been intrigued by the use of days of the week as names ever since I first discovered Wednesday Addams - obviously not all of them work well, but for me Sunday sounds just beautiful!

Harlow Winter Kate

First born child of Nicole Richie & Joel Madden - Many people assumed that this was an ill-judged naming based on the Essex town, but of course this isn't the case at all - the name was in honour of silver screen icon Jean Harlow. The use of Winter makes it all the more lovely for me, as this is one of my all-time favourite names, and the addition of the much more common Kate in honour of Joel's mother gives the name a more down to earth element. Perfect! Unfortunately, little brother Sparrow James Midnight  was not quite so fortunate in the name stakes...

Aviana Olea

Only child of actress Amy Adams & Darren Le Gallo - Careful to avoid the now trendy Ava but keep with the same theme, Aviana seems an inspired choice - and its pairing with the equally lovely and equally latin Olea flows perfectly. Unusual, elegant - and Aviana Le Gallo is certainly the name of a future Hollywood Goddess?

  Deacon Reese

Second child of Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Phillipe - named after his fathers distant cousin.... baseball player Deacon Phillipe and using his mothers middle name/stage name (Her actual name being Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon),  this is a classic and sturdy sounding name that still manages to be trendy and modern. A winning combination!

Vivienne Marcheline

Youngest child of the Jolie-Pitt Clan -  It seems that, after naming 5 children rather badly (Maddox Chivan, Zahara Marley, Shiloh Nouvel, Pax Thien and Knox Leon), the Jolie-Pitt's had finally run out of steam and ended up settling on what is actually a very pretty name!
Vivienne means "alive", and so its use with Marcheline in honour of Angelina Jolie's mother Marcheline Bertrand who had passed away shortly before the childs birth makes it all the more poetic and touching.

Five Of The Worst

Pilot Inspektor

The oldest son of Jason Lee & his former partner Beth Riesgraf - The unusual name was apparently inspired by the song "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's The Pilot" by indie rock band Grandaddy.

Moxie Crimefighter

Oldest daughter of Penn Jillette and wife Emily Zolten - they apparently decided to have a little fun with their little one's middle name, because the middle name-less Emily told her husband "Nobody ever hears the middle name anyway!"....unfortunately that doesn't explain the "Moxie" part.

Blue Ivy

Only child of Jay-Z and Beyonce - I have to admit, I'm not nor have I ever been a fan of this Power Couple - and their request to Copyright the name of their little bundle of joy did nothing to change my mind!
I'm all for creativity when it comes to baby naming, particularly for celebrities, but to my ears - Blue Ivy sounds like the name of a seedy strip club. And given that this child was born long after The Edge's daughter Blue Angel and Alicia Silverstone's son Bear Blu - it seems like it might have been an idea to pick a new colour!

Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence

Daughter of Uma Thurman and Arpad Busson - Uma says that she "Simply couldn't decide on just one name" and so ended using every name she & her partner had liked during the pregnancy! Luckily for the child, they plan on just calling her Luna for short......but good luck to little Luna whenever she needs to fill out forms! Sheer Luna-cy.....

Buddy Bear, Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo and Petal Blossom Rainbow

Children of Jamie & Jools Oliver - I'm not sure there's much more to be said about these names. They speak for themselves, don't you think?!
Just when you thought there could be a baby name more pretentious than Apple or more ridiculously cutesy than Fifi Trixibelle and sisters Peaches Honeyblossom, Pixie & Heavenli Hiraani Tigerlily....leave it to these two to come up with these monstrosities!

What are you best and west Celebrity baby names? As always, I'd love to hear your comments! :)

  1. Hahaha this post made me laugh! I'm like you, I like my baby names to be uncommon but not weird, I think Pilot Inspektor is taking it a bit far lol xx

  2. I liked Blue Ivy when a website misprinted it and put 'Ivy Blue' instead. I think it's time Ivy made a comeback. However, as you say, Blue Ivy sounds like a seedy strip club and I feel sorry for the poor little mite.

And I can't even talk about Jamie Oliver's children. Buddy? Fair enough, but leave the 'bear' part as an affectionate nickname. Poppy? I love it. Honey, not so much. I think they went a little overboard on the 'affectionate' middle names.

  6. Great post babes and I agree with you xx

  7. I love Sunday Rose! I hate how people play with their kids names its awful. Obviously what's right for some is wrong to others but some of those names are just plain out there and not in a good way, particuly the Oliver clan!
I was told my son has too many names we actually hyphenated his first Alfie-George in honour of OH grandad James is his middle name and Brett is a family name that we have just stuck too (I even took it when changing my name!)
