I've decided to try something a bit different on my blog this week, I will be starting a new weekly feature whereby every Monday I feature two mini product reviews....
One for the girls reviewed by myself, and one for the boys reviewed by Bean Daddy...the idea behind this is that I like to use blogs to find product recommendations not only for myself but also for gift ideas for my friends, baby and partner too! And with so few blogs around focusing on male products, it seems a good idea to include an article focusing on mens products.
So for our first week....I will be reviewing Palmolive's new Ayurituel Shower Gel range, and Bean Daddy will be reviewing REF Deep Cleansing Shampoo for Men.
Her Review
You may have heard of Ayurveda - this is an ancient Indian practice which encourages a healthier and more balanced lifestyle, and is practiced by many A-List celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, Madonna and Julia Roberts.
Ayurveda is the inspiration behind the new line of Ayurituel shower gels from Palmolive - there are three shower gel experiences in the line:
Tranquility - Soothing Indian Neem and Patchouli extracts to calm the senses
Joyous - Lotus Flower and Indian Mulberry for a heavenly shower experience
Energy - Indian Sandalwood and Ginger for an uplifting and stimulating shower
This works in line with the Ayurvedic belief that we each have three doshas in our physiology but in different proportions - so we will each have one dominant dosha.
The three Doshas are:
Vata - People with a dominant Vata tend to be thin, fast and love any kind of movement and travel. They are quick in their thoughts and actions, and get bored easily.
They are good multi taskers but can be easily distracted.
They love warm food and climates, and tend to have cold hands and feet.
Pitta - People with a dominant pitta tend to be intelligent, sharp, and good leaders. They push themselves too hard and can be over-ambitious. They can be aggressive, demanding and experience a lot of anger when out of balance. They are often hungry, feel thirsty often, get hot and sweaty a lot, and can have problems with sensitive skin and heartburn.
Kapha - People with dominant kapha tend to be strong and solid both physically and emotionally, with great immunity. They tend to move slowly and take time to make decisions, they are reliable and loyal friends but do not like change. Kapha people prefer warm climates and not much movements. When out of balance they can be lethargic and don't like to let go of things or throw things away. They often have slow digestion, struggle with motivation and like to sleep a lot.
So which is your dominant dosha??
Mine is certainly Pitta, and as it is recommended that this fiery dosha needs to be calmed and cooled it made perfect sense to me that my favourite shower gel was the Tranquility gel - I found this to be extremely relaxing and when used just before bed time it really helped me to drop off more easily.

I tried each of these shower gels, and found each one to be lovely in its own way - as you'd expected from a name as trusted as Palmolive the shower gel does its job perfectly, provides a gorgeous lather and leaves you feeling really clean - but each individual gel does also seem to awaken different senses. If you have dominant Kapha it would make sense that the Energy gel would work best for you, and if you have dominant Vata then the Joyous would be the best option.
Each of the shower gels smells just divine, and the smell lingers on the skin for hours after use....which I personally love!
So, which one will you try?!

His Review
I was sent REF.413 Deep Cleansing Shampoo to try and and whilst not a label freak, I am partial to using good quality products. The first thing that attracted me to the REF.413 was the packaging, and whilst they say not to judge a book by it's cover I was impressed.
The REF.413 bottle is matt black with gunmetal coloured top and has a distinctly purposeful and masculine look to it. It looks like a professional product as you can no doubt tell by the picture.
The Deep Cleansing Shampoo is described as 'Simple, fuss-free, high quality haircare from Sweden'.
The product itself is designed to remove styling products and excess oil from the hair and scalp.
Upon using the Deep Cleansing Shampoo for the first time, I loved the fragrance and feel. It's not overly perfumed, and has a rich, non oily feel. Upon applying it to my hair the lather felt great and upon rinsing, my hair and scalp felt clean and fresh after only one application.
REF.413 contains Tamanu Oil, which although I was not familiar with before, has certainly has made a very positive impression on me since using for it's deep cleansing properties.
I use wax everyday, and sometimes have residue left in even after shampooing twice with other products. I can confirm however this was NOT the case with REF.413.
This is one product now firmly on my shopping list!
REF.413 is available from salons nationwide and online via www.hairtec.com and is priced at £7.95 for 300ml.
Have you tried any of these products? As always, we'd love to hear your thoughts!
