His & Hers Reviews: Bio Oil & Palmers Cocoa Butter For Men

Its time for another His & Hers Review!

Her Review
Given the very name of this blog, it will come as NO surprise to any of you that one of my main bug-bears throughout pregnancy has been the dreaded stretchmark!!!

I was lucky enough to avoid them until about 6 weeks ago - then suddenly, there they were! In all their grotesque purple glory!!

I only have them on the lower part of my bump, and on my right side - which I suppose isn't TOO bad as I know a lot of girls from pregnancy forums who have been getting them on their legs and arms too, which just goes to show that they really can crop up anywhere and its a very individual thing!

I have decided to be brave and share with you the hideous stretchmarks that have been sprouting up on me!:

As you can see, I am also covered in scratches as my skin has become very dry and irritated!

There are many causes of stretchmarks, pregnancy is just one - rapid weight loss or gain can also cause the appearance of stretchmarks.

I have been using Bio Oil for about 3 weeks now, and have noticed that my scratches have calmed down since I began use as I think the oil is hydrating my skin and helping with the irritated feeling - the stretchmarks will take longer than this to lessen in appearance (Bio Oil recommend use for approximately 7 weeks before results should be visible) but I can say that no further stretchmarks have appeared since I have been using the oil!

I will be taking some more photos in a few more weeks time to compare the results!

Bio Oil also treats many other skin complaints including dehydrated skin, uneven skin tone, and scars (so I will certainly be giving it a go on my c-section scar after the surgery!)

Bio-Oil’s Key ingredients include:

PurCellin Oil™  - dramatically lowers the viscosity (stickiness and density) of the formulation to create a “dry” oil which is non-greasy.

Vitamin A – helps improve the skin’s elasticity, texture and tone
Vitamin E – The most widely used antioxidant in skincare products today, Vitamin E increases the moisture content of the epidermis, thereby making the skin softer, smoother and more supple. Vitamin E also assists in the maintenance of healthy-looking skin
Calendula Oil – Calendula Officinalis, more commonly referred to as marigold, has been used for centuries as a natural antioxidant and has the ability to clarify and stimulates the growth of new skin cells
Lavender Oil – Lavender oil is widely known for calming and soothing benefits
Rosemary Oil – Rosemary oil helps to invigorate and it has a mild antiseptic capabilities and thus eases congestion, puffiness and swelling of the skin
Chamomile Oil – Chamomile has a calming and soothing effect and is particularly beneficial for sensitive skin

His Review:

Now, I'm not that vain, but I do like to look nice and sometimes suffer with dry skin. I'm not saying I'm so troubled by this that it keeps me awake at night however it can be a pain, and there's nothing wrong with looking after your skin. It's your largest organ don't you know, and serves more than to just keep your blood and guts in place.

I've used various skin care products in that past with varying degree's of success. Some I've loved other's have gone straight in the bin.

I was recently sent some Palmer's Men's Cocoa Butter Formula Face & Body Lotion to test and, because I'm a bloke, was taken by the fact that the packaging was in no way effeminate, or could be mistaken for a woman's product.

Upon unlocking the pump and popping a tentative amount on to my hand the fragrance immediately impressed. It's fresh, but subtle, and not overly perfumed. Good start.

The Palmer's Men's Cocoa Butter Formula feels thick and high end quality, like a much more expensive brand from an aftershave manufacturer than the price tag would suggest. There's no oily, or greasy residue feel and after a quick application, sinks in nicely.

So, test over, time to use it after having a shave.

Using it as a balm is fantastic. It really feels like it's doing your skin good from the first application. It genuinely feels like it's nourishing your skin and, best of all, no shiny face, just gentle freshness, and mousturised skin that is left smelling great. Minimum fuss with maximum results.

Palmer's Men's Cocoa Butter Formula Face & Body is available in a 400ml pump bottle with an RRP of £5.27 or a 250ml bottle for £3.97.
