Top tips for a healthy smile

As the sun comes out and it finally starts warming up, for some reason a brighter smile just seems to fit. Maybe it’s because we’re smiling more in the hot weather or sipping drinks in the sunshine. Summer brings out the healthy side in all of us; just don’t leave out your smile.

  1. Visit your dentist
Make a date with your dentist and stick to it. Regular check-ups will keep your teeth and gums healthy.  Vallance Dental Centre recommend that patients should visit their dentist every 6 months  , so any problems can be found early and dealt with quickly. The days of dreading your visit to the dentist are overSeeing your dentist can now be a great experienceproviding you with a space in which you can relax and feel rejuvenated.

  1. Snack smart
Sometimes it’s just too hard to resist those sugary snacks. We get it, we really do. But maybe if you knew that all that sugar was dulling your smile it might be a little easier to choose the sugar free option instead. Sugar promotes tooth decay like nothing else and, given enough of it, can cause serious problems with your teeth. So put down the mid-afternoon chocolate and the fizzy drinks.

  1. Quit the cigarettes
Smoking plays havoc on your entire body. You may know many of the many health issues associated with smoking, but did you also realise that it’s a nightmare for your teeth? In the UK smoking is one of the leading causes of tooth loss as well as increasing your risk of cavities, gum disease and gum recession. Plus if you’re a fan of the bright white smile, smoking can discolour the teeth. So stub out that cigarette and save your teeth.

  1. Watch your diet
You might be trying to eat healthy anyway given the hot weather, but here’s even more reason to ditch the carbs in place of fresh fruit and vegetables. The vitamins and minerals in fresh fruit and vegetables don’t just do great things for your skin and hair, they also help your immune system fight off gum infections and inflammation whereas starchy food can break down into sugars in your mouth and be just as bad as those sugary snacks.

Keep your teeth bright and healthy this summer by following these simple tips and get into a good routine and you’ll be all set to achieving that dazzling smile. Keep your teeth healthy all year round. You only get one set, so look after them guys.
