Great Ways to Find Time for Yourself as a New Mum

Being a new mum is an incredible yet exhausting experience. As soon as baby comes along, life seems to all of a sudden become extremely hectic! Sleepless nights, a mountain of chores and trying to take care of baby’s endless needs throughout the day, can leave you with very little time to take care of yourself.

The trouble is, finding time to unwind and relax is crucial for new mums. If you don’t make a little time for yourself, you run the risk of burning out and that’s not good for you or baby. The question is, how on earth can you find the time to focus on yourself and your needs? Here, we’ll look at some of the best ways to find time for yourself as a new mum.

Utilise the time your baby sleeps

One of the best ways to take time out for yourself is to utilise the time your baby sleeps. Rather than tackling the chores when your baby naps, spend a little time focusing on yourself. Whether that means taking a nap yourself or using the time to listen to a little music with headphones on or reading. By the time your little one wakes up, you’ll feel a lot more relaxed and ready to take care of their needs.

Quick relaxation techniques

Being a new mum can be extremely stressful. The trouble is, when you become stressed you end up feeling a lot more exhausted. Taking even just 5-15 minutes out to partake in quick relaxation techniques can really help.

Meditation is a great option. It can take a while to get the hang of meditating, but you’ll find some great guided techniques on site such as YouTube to help get you started. Even just 5 minutes of meditating a day is shown to have great relaxation benefits.  

Treat yourself when baby goes to bed

When you put baby down for bed at night, it’s the perfect time for you to spend some time just for you. Why not get into the habit of running a bath right after putting baby down and soaking in the tub for a while. This calming evening routine can do wonders for your stress levels.

It’s not easy making yourself a priority after baby has arrived. However, it is necessary if you want to be the best mum you can be. Taking care of yourself is one of the best things you can do for your baby, so start making time each day to focus solely on you.
