Infacol Colic Awareness Month: GIVEAWAY

*This post was written in collaboration with Infacol who are sponsoring this giveaway

Dear New Mum,

I remember so clearly being where you are right now.

The feelings of overwhelming love, endless worry beyond your wildest dreams, panic, elation, sadness, joy, exhaustion....the seemingly never-ending list of confusing and often contradicting emotions all rushing in at once.

The desperation to cherish and savour every minute, just as you've been instructed to do by all those well-meaning people who warn you of how fast this time will pass by - little knowing how much those words panic you.

And the lack of ability to fully cherish anything while functioning on so little sleep, and feeling so unsure of whether you're doing it all right.

The endless self-doubt, self-questioning, uncertainty...The pressure from outside sources, the perceived judgements, the hormonal highs and lows...the tears...the physical pain and trauma that so often goes hand in hand with bringing a new life into this world.

It feels like just yesterday for me, though in reality my first child is no longer a newborn but is suddenly a 6 year old little boy - full of energy, and equally full of attitude!

But the memories are as fresh as if it was yesterday. And as much as I linger over those newborn photos and as much as I'd give anything for one more sniff of my babies newborn scent, and his chubby little fingers curled tightly around mine....I also remember how overwhelming that time was.

If I could go back and give myself just one piece of advice, it would be to ask for help when I needed it.

There are no prizes for stumbling through it all alone. And in fact, things would have been a whole lot easier for me if I'd just asked for the help and support I needed when It all felt too much instead of feeling as though I had to prove myself.

The newborn days are a blur and a blessing, but they're a tricky time too - and there's no shame in asking for support.

Infacol have developed Colic Awareness Month in September as a time for parents, carers and healthcare professionals to swap stories of soothing crying babies and to offer support, solidarity and information to anyone that might be going through a rough first 6 months with their newborn.

According to NHS Choices, colic is the name for excessive, frequent crying in a baby who otherwise appears to be healthy. It affects 1 in 5 babies and tends to begin when a baby is a few weeks old.

Infacol is Britain’s number one colic remedy and has been used by generations of parents to soothe trapped wind, colic and griping pain. It can be used form birth onwards, it’s sugar, alcohol and colourant-free and has an orange flavour. The active ingredient in Infacol is an anti-foaming agent called simeticone, which helps to break down these gas bubbles. In a recent real-world study 93.2% of respondents felt that using simeticone had either improved or completely resolved their baby’s colic
