Kids Books We Loved In April

As a home educating family, we are always on the look out for more books to add to our ever-expanding collection. Especially when it comes to books of the educational variety!

I've always been a bit of a bookworm myself, so naturally I've also had a bit of a "thing" for buying beautiful children's books anyway but now that we're home schooling, I feel that having a wide array of literature available for my children is a real positive.

I've bought from every book retailer you can think of over the years, but one company we always return to is Books2Door - not only do they stock a fantastic selection of childrens books ranging from fun fiction to educational fact books, but there are lots of other perks of shopping with them too such as their fantastic Books2Door+ delivery option which enables you to pay just £6.95 per year for 12 months worth of free deliveries.

They also run a loyalty scheme which enables you to collect points for every £1 you spend, which you can then redeem against future purchases - you can even earn a £5 bonus by referring a friend!

This months books all come from Books2Door - so let's take a look at what we've been loving!

First up is this STEM Starters For Kids activity book bundle which is absolutely incredible value at just £12.39 for 8 books!

Each of the books covers a different STEM topic, including Maths, Science, Meteorology, Geology, Biology, Robotics, Engineering & Technology.

They're recommended for ages 7+ and have been absolutely perfect for my children who are aged 7, 8 and 10. The illustrations are really engaging, and the information is put across in a really simple and snappy way which is then backed up with hands-on activities for children to complete.

I find that my children learn so much better when they can actually have a go at an activity themselves rather than just read about it, and these books are brilliant for that.

The activities range from puzzles, mazes and quizzes to challenges such as "Design your own planet rover" and there are plenty of opportunities to enhance the experience even further by providing some simple hands-on experiments alongside - for example there's a page all about the science behind glow sticks, which would be wonderfully brought to life by simply providing some glow sticks for the children to try as they read about them.

Overall,  I am really impressed with this set and would thoroughly recommend it to anybody home educating primary children.

Moving on to the next book we enjoyed this month, which was this simple but very appropriate book of Amazing Facts About King Charles The Third.

With the coronation taking place in May, we have been spending some time brushing up on our British Monarchy knowledge and the children have of course been very curious about the new King - so this book has been an ideal way to learn some quick and fun facts about him.

They're short and easily digestible for kids under 10, and fun enough to keep them engaged while still being educational too.

An ideal little book for just £3.99

The Usborne STEM Scribble Series is one I've had my eye on for a while now, and it has absolutely lived up to my expectations.

It's comprised of four books - one on each of the STEM subjects, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths - and is designed to keep kids engaged by providing lots of opportunities for them to put pen to paper by doing some really fun activities as they learn.

These hardback books are recommended for ages 7-11, and although my 7 and 8 year olds have enjoyed a lot of the books - I have to say that it's my 10 year old who has found them the most engaging of all.

He loves the opportunity they provide to carry out thought experiments, and have a go at the things he's just read about for himself - the books are presented in a really fun way, and really do keep things accessible for all.

For the bargain price of just £11.50 with Books2Door, I can't recommend this set highly enough.

And finally, the Usborne 100 Things To Know About Science, Space & The Human Body is a set of 3 hardback books which are absolutely packed full of interesting facts about the 3 subjects listed - as you'd expect from Usborne, the illustrations and style of presentation are exceptionally engaging for children and really deliver the information in a way that's easy to digest.

These books are recommended for children aged 5-7, but my 8 year old found them really engaging too and even my 10 year old enjoyed reading them to himself in bed at night.

These are great books to have to hand for whenever a random question pops up, or for your kids to just peruse on their own time.
