We recently visited for a family dinner and were genuinely blown away – not just by the food (which was incredible), but by the thoughtful touches that make this the perfect place for parents, kids, and even the fussiest of eaters.
One of the biggest talking points of the evening was the new kids’ menu – it’s not your standard sheet of paper with colouring pens. Oh no, Prezzo have really levelled up the fun factor. Kids are given special 3D glasses to view the menu, and there’s even a 3D interactive game when you scan the QR code on the menu! Our children were absolutely enthralled, giggling away as they tried on their glasses and pointed out the pop-out pictures. On top of that, Prezzo’s quirky “Give Peas a Chance” promotion means unlimited peas for children – right up my pea-loving sons street!
A Warm Welcome & Stunning Setting
From the moment we stepped through the doors, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. The staff greeted us with warm smiles, and it was clear that families are not just tolerated here – they are genuinely welcomed.
The building itself is stunning – Prezzo Torquay is set inside a beautifully converted old bank, with high ceilings, elegant décor, and a light, airy feel that perfectly complements its prime location on Torquay’s picturesque harbour. The ideal spot for holiday diners and locals alike!
Vegetarian Heaven
As a family, we have both meat-eaters and vegetarians at the table, and one thing that impressed me hugely was that vegetarians get their very own menu. This isn’t a token effort with one or two pasta dishes – it’s a full selection of mouth-watering options. Honestly, it’s rare to see such variety, and it’s something that would encourage us to return to Prezzo time and again.
Starters – Cheese Pulls & Creamy Comfort
For my starter, I couldn’t resist the creamy mushrooms served with warm slices of focaccia bread. The sauce was rich and indulgent, a beautifully smooth cacio e pepe that had just the right balance of peppery kick and cheesy comfort. I would happily order it again tomorrow.
Jon and the kids went for the crispy fried mozzarella squares, which came out perfectly golden. The cheese pull was, as the kids like to say, epic – we even had to take a couple of slow-motion videos! Tyne went for the calamari, which was fresh, tender, and served with a delicious pestonaisse dip that added a herby, garlicky punch. The perfect introduction to our meal.
Mains – Big Flavours & Big Portions
For my main, I chose the lasagne – and I’ll admit, I’m picky when it comes to lasagne. But this one hit the spot. Bubbling hot, oozing with cheese, and meaty without a trace of greasiness – it was absolutely divine.
Jon ordered the chicken rigatoni with mushrooms and garlic, which our waitress had highly recommended. One bite and I could see why – it was one of the best pasta dishes we’ve had in an Italian restaurant. In fact, I’m already plotting my next visit purely so I can order it for myself.
Tyne went big with the meaty calzone, and when it arrived, the entire table gasped. It was enormous – safe to say, half of it came home in a takeaway box for lunch the next day. He assured us it was delicious, with just the right balance of fillings and perfectly baked dough.
Our vegetarians enjoyed a classic mozzarella pizza, which didn’t disappoint, and a vegan bolognese that was rich, hearty, and bursting with flavour. They also shared some chilli cheese fries – crispy, punchy, and utterly addictive – plus a classic garlic pizza bread that my youngest polished off almost entirely by themselves. It consisted of a light, airy dough and lashings of garlic butter – you just can’t go wrong, can you?!
Desserts – Sweet Endings
By dessert time, we were all full, but of course there’s a separate stomach for pudding! Jon went for the tiramisu, which he described as authentic and heavenly. Tyne tucked into a gooey chocolate cookie dough, while Sailor chose the Biscoff cheesecake, which they declared “absolutely scrumptious”.
Noah and I both stuck to our all-time favourite – the hot chocolate fudge cake. Rich, warm, and topped with cool ice cream, it was the perfect end to the meal. It’s my favourite dessert which I’ve had in many places, but this one was faultless.
Verdict – Our New Favourite Family Spot
This meal at Prezzo Torquay was, without exaggeration, one of the best we’ve had in years. Every dish was cooked to perfection, the service was genuinely warm, and the setting was beautiful. The new kids’ menu with its 3D glasses game, the “Give Peas a Chance” unlimited peas offer, and the thoughtful vegetarian menu make this restaurant stand out from the crowd.
It’s rare to find somewhere that caters so well to every member of our family – from adventurous eaters to fussy little ones, from meat lovers to vegans – all while keeping the atmosphere stylish yet relaxed. But Prezzo managed it with ease!
