Existing incentives could be removed or eligibility rules might change, which can affect future costs or resale value. Battery production and the manufacturing supply chain also carry environmental and social impacts, and those upstream emissions can blunt some of the climate advantages of driving electric.
Also, the real climate benefit depends on how clean the electricity is. As the UK grid continues to decarbonise, the advantages improve, but that’s a long-term process.
