The Best Of British: Our Family Seaside Break with Twitchen House Holiday Park, North Devon

If you’re searching for the perfect destination for a family seaside break in the UK, North Devon should be high on your list. With its golden beaches, dramatic coastline, family-friendly attractions and relaxed atmosphere, it’s the ideal place to escape for a few days. We recently spent four nights at Twitchen House Holiday Park, and it turned out to be one of our favourite family holidays in the UK to date!

From beautiful beaches and fantastic on-site facilities to comfortable accommodation and entertainment for all ages, our stay had everything we needed for a memorable family getaway. Here’s what we thought….

A Fantastic Base for Exploring North Devon

Twitchen House Holiday Park is perfectly located for exploring some of North Devon’s most beautiful coastline. Whether you’re looking to spend your days building sandcastles, walking scenic coastal paths or simply enjoying quality family time, everything is within easy reach.

One of the biggest highlights of staying here is its proximity to Woolacombe Bay, one of the UK’s most famous and well loved award-winning beaches. Just a short 5 minute drive away, Woolacombe Bay offers three miles of soft golden sand, making it an absolute paradise for families.

The beach is perfect for little ones who love digging, paddling and building sandcastles, while older children can enjoy bodyboarding, surfing or simply playing in the waves. Even during busier periods, there’s so much space that you can always find your own spot to relax.

The beach also benefits from excellent facilities including cafés, toilets, shops and surf hire, making it easy to spend an entire day there without needing to leave. Lifeguards patrol during the main season too, giving families extra peace of mind.

Watching the sunset over Woolacombe Bay was one of our favourite moments of the trip, and it’s easy to see why this beach regularly features among the best in Britain. There are plenty of family attractions a short drive away too – we visited Watermouth Castle but attractions such as The Big Sheep aren’t far away either!

Our Modern & Stylish Caravan

After busy days exploring North Devon, it was lovely returning to our caravan each evening – it really did provide the perfect home away from home!

We were really impressed with the accommodation. The caravan felt modern, fresh and spotlessly clean, with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It had a bright, open-plan living space that was ideal for relaxing together after long days at the beach.

The kitchen was well equipped for preparing breakfasts and evening meals, while the bedrooms were cosy and comfortable, helping everyone get a good night’s sleep ready for another day of adventure.

One of our favourite features was the decking area outside. It was such a lovely place to enjoy a morning coffee while planning the day’s activities or to unwind in the evening after the children had finished playing. Having that extra outdoor space made the caravan feel even more spacious and really added to the holiday experience.

Brilliant On-Site Entertainment

One thing that really stood out during our stay was just how much there was to do without leaving the holiday park.

The on-site pub quickly became one of our favourite places in the evenings. It had a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that made it easy for families to enjoy a meal or a drink while the children were entertained.

Each evening there was something happening, from family-friendly shows to live entertainment that kept everyone smiling. It was the perfect way to end the day without needing to head elsewhere.

There was also an on-site cinema, which was a lovely bonus. It’s not something you often expect at a holiday park, but it gave us another fun evening activity and was ideal if the weather wasn’t quite beach-friendly.

The arcade was another huge hit with our children. They could easily have spent hours in there enjoying the games and trying to win prizes. It added another layer of excitement to the holiday and meant there was always something to do, whatever the weather.

Splashing Around at the Outdoor Pool

Without doubt, one of the biggest highlights of Twitchen House Holiday Park is its fantastic outdoor pool complex.

The outdoor pool is absolutely beautiful and feels much more like something you’d expect at a larger holiday resort. With plenty of space to swim, splash and play, it quickly became one of our favourite places to spend time.

The water slides were great fun and kept the children entertained for ages. There was a brilliant atmosphere around the pool, with families making the most of the sunshine while children raced between the slides and swimming areas. I loved that you could order food and drinks to be delivered to your poolside table too – the pizzas were delicious and great value too!

The FlowRider Experience

For our son, the highlight of the trip was without a doubt—the FlowRider surfing simulator!

Although this activity comes at an additional charge, we thought it offered fantastic value for money.

Rather than simply getting one quick go which is what we’ve experienced when he’s tried the Flow Rider previously on cruise holidays, each session lasted around an hour for the group, giving everyone multiple opportunities to ride the FlowRider and gradually build their confidence.

It was brilliant watching the children improve with each turn as they learned new techniques and even started attempting tricks.

The instructor really made the experience special. He was patient, encouraging and fantastic with children, offering helpful tips and building everyone’s confidence throughout the session. By the end, our son had improved so much and came away absolutely buzzing with the tricks he’d learned, already asking when he could do it again.

If you have children who enjoy surfing, bodyboarding or simply trying something different, we’d highly recommend booking the FlowRider session.

Indoor Pool for Any Weather

One of the great things about staying at Twitchen House Holiday Park is that you’re not relying on the weather to have a good time.

Alongside the outdoor pool, there’s also a fantastic indoor swimming pool complete with water slides, making it ideal for cooler days or if the British weather decides not to cooperate.

Having both indoor and outdoor swimming facilities meant there was always somewhere for the children to burn off energy, whatever the forecast.

It’s another feature that makes the park particularly well suited to families with young children.

A Holiday That Offers Great Value

What impressed us most throughout our stay was just how much was included on site. There was always something happening, whether it was swimming, evening entertainment, exploring the arcade, enjoying a family film at the cinema or simply relaxing at the caravan.

The facilities are well maintained, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and everything feels geared towards helping families have a stress-free holiday.

Being able to combine days at one of Britain’s best beaches with so many activities back at the park meant we never struggled to fill our days.

Our Overall Thoughts

Our four-night stay at Twitchen House Holiday Park exceeded our expectations in so many ways.

We left with wonderful memories, happy children and a long list of reasons why we’d happily return year after year. North Devon has so much to offer families, and Twitchen House Holiday Park provides the perfect base to experience it all.
